Supporting our former College students at the University

“It was so helpful when Pam came to the Uni to visit the first years last year and to just have a chat about how we were going and what our subjects were like.  It was a good way to catch up with other first students from Claremont and on one occasion Pam gave us all lunch and we were able to talk to each other about our different experiences such as lectures or our assignments.
The UTAS Project Room at College is closer to my home than Uni and it is very much appreciated that the teachers at college to still want to help us even when we have left there.  It makes the transition from College to Uni a lot easier. It’s excellent!”

Erin Such, February 2007.

Erin is now in her second year of a Bachelor of Arts degree at UTAS and she is one of a number of former Claremont College students who have accessed the support the Claremont College/ UTAS Project has provided for students since the Project began in 2006. The Project Room is just one way we can do that. Another is the personalised support we provide for students at UTAS. Pam Murphy works closely with our UTAS students, at both the Hobart and Launceston UTAS campuses, to provide the level and means of support which will best suit each student.

At Claremont College, we have a number of programs which are designed to support current students considering a tertiary pathway, and Jill Glover makes sure students have all the support, encouragement and information they need to make the transition to university.

We also work with members of the community, as well as with staff and students at our liaison schools, to build motivation for tertiary study in our community.

This year, some of our programs will include community lectures, escorted UTAS bus tours, mentoring, shadowing and a Back to College Day. Events will be advertised through this newsletter, on our website and also through community newspapers.

Your involvement in the Project as a student (current or former), as a family member or as a community member is warmly invited. Please contact us if you would like more information about the Project or about any of the events planned for this year.
